In August 2015, the King Abdulaziz Medical Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (KAMC-R), encountered a major crisis resulting from an outbreak of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus (MERS-CoV), which led to the leadership temporarily shutting most of the hospital down. This crisis triggered reflection and a cascade of events that set the organization onto a journey of transformation to modernization, reliability and excellence. The speaker Dr Bandar Al Knawy was Chief Executive during the crisis and his lecture will cover the approach taken by the senior leadership of the hospital and the ‘crisis management framework’ that was developed as a result, to ensure future organizational resilience. The lecture will focus on the healthcare management’s response to the crisis and the ‘crisis management framework’ subsequently developed for any future crisis by the organization.
