The history of poisons: toxic matters, scientific actors and socio-political processes, 19th-20th c.

Lead is as a perfectly identified poison, massively used by industry since late 18th century without being strongly threatened : it is the history of a legal poison, in modern France, in comparison with other industrialized countries. I will argue that scientific and medical knowledge is not a defence against industrial poisoning, which follows a specific grammar of social and political denial, building a regime of imperceptibility and shared compromise with the poison.
