‘Early intervention: can we prevent mental health problems in childhood before they really start?’

Chair: Professor Alan Stein

Abstract: The promise of prevention, the change to stop mental health problems before they start, offers huge potential benefits, but the reality often falls short. In this talk I will discuss the challenge and potential of really early intervention, drawing on the example of newly completed RCT, the Healthy Start Happy Start trial, conceived in Oxford, engineered at Imperial College London, and delivered in collaboration with both of these institutions, as well as Cambridge, Kings College London and others.
