Lymphoid stromal cells are essential components of macrophage niches

Although the myeloid community recently made tremendous progress in understanding the origin and roles of tissue-resident Mϕ, a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms supporting their homeostasis is lacking.
. The concept of the Mϕ niche postulates that Mϕ homeostasis is locally regulated by “niches” that provide both an anchoring and nurturing scaffold to Mϕ. Here, I will present recent data suggesting that lymphoid stromal cells represent essential components of the Mϕ niche in lymphoid organs.
