DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, Astrid Møller-Olsen shares her ongoing researc
 h on how contemporary Sinophone works of fiction use botanical characters\
 , plant imagery and green environments to create alternative realities\, e
 xplore possible futures and deal with traumatic pasts. Through an interdis
 ciplinary theoretical framework based on critical plant studies\, environm
 ental humanities and gender studies\, Dr Møller-Olsen shows how plants fi
 gure as partly human monsters\, planetary partners\, or ecological avenger
 s in works by Chi Hui 迟卉\, Yan Ge 颜歌\, Dorothy Tse’s 謝曉虹\,
  Alai 阿来\, Chu T’ien-hsin 朱天心\, and Dung Kai-cheung 董啟章.

DESCRIPTION:In her research\, Astrid Møller-Olsen employs a framework of 
 sensory literary studies to explore the connections between memory and mat
 eriality in contemporary Sinophone fiction from Taipei\, Hong Kong and Sha
 nghai.  Dr Møller-Olsen engages with themes of scented nostalgia\, flavou
 rs in fiction\, walking as method\, literary cartography\, the melody of l
 anguage\, gendered cityscapes\, metafictional dreams and rhythmic senses o
 f time to study how contemporary cities change the way we think about time
 \, space and memory. \nAstrid Møller-Olsen has a doctoral degree in conte
 mporary Chinese literature and is currently working as a lecturer at the C
 entre for Languages and Literature\, Lund University\, Sweden. Current res
 earch focuses on theories of sensory literary studies and the spatiotempor
 al relation between cityscape and memory in contemporary urban Sinophone f
