DESCRIPTION:2023 marks the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor\, a Soviet ar
 tificially induced famine which claimed the lives of approximately 4\,5 mi
 llion people who lived in the Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic. Its his
 tory and legacy have been widely debated and reflected in the Ukrainian so
 ciety and diaspora\, making it a cornerstone of the collective memory in t
 he country.\n\nWe invite you to the lecture "The Holodomor: Moscow’s Men
 acing of Ukraine in Historical Context" by Dr. Kristina Hook to reflect on
  its the changes the famine had in public perception locally and in global
  contexts over the past nine decades. Together with a brief history of Hol
 odomor itself\, the lecture will cover its modern place in scholarship and
  Ukrainian history\, as well as parallels with the atrocities of Russia's 
 war against Ukraine.\n\nDr. Kristina Hook is an Assistant Professor of Con
 flict Management at Kennesaw State University’s School of Conflict Manag
 ement\, Peacebuilding\, and Development and a nonresident senior fellow at
  the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center.  Based on her fieldwork in Ukrai
 ne since 2015\, her doctoral dissertation on the Holodomor received the Ke
 llogg Institute for International Studies Award for Distinguished Disserta
 tion on Democracy and Human Development. She is also the Principal Author 
 of “The Russian Federation’s Escalating Commission of Genocide in Ukra
 ine: A Legal Analysis\,” published in July 2023 by New Lines Institute a
