DESCRIPTION:The IPCC WG1 has already established that human-induced global
warming has reached over 1C and is continuing to rise\, demonstrating tha
t climate change is not only a threat in the future\, but also right now.\
n\nNow\, the IPCC WG2 report extensively assesses the ‘widespread advers
e impacts and related losses and damages to nature and people’ that we a
re seeing as a result.\n\nHow are people vulnerable to these changes\, and
how does this vary? How well/poorly are we adapting to current impacts\,
and are there limits to what we can adapt to? What might a simultaneously
adaptive and mitigative development approach look like\, and how fast is t
he window closing for taking such an approach?\n\nJoin us as Oxford's Clim
ate Research Network and the Oxford Martin School host a panel of IPCC aut
hors to address those questions\, and more. This is an opportunity to lear
n about the latest information that will form the foundation of developmen
t over the coming years\, directly from those most closely involved in syn
thesising the global understanding of the problems we face.\n\nPanel:\n\nD

DESCRIPTION:Green Recovery Now is an Oxford University student-led movemen
 t. Working across five continents\, we aim to use leading research to rais
e awareness amongst the public about country-specific and global green rec
overy plans\, and to use this research and awareness to strengthen demands
on national governments to pursue green recovery policies in this crucial
year for climate action. For more information\, visit our website: www.gr
eenrecoverynow.org.\n\nWith our first talk we want to foster a debate on t
he two key aspects of the recovery from Covid-19 we are advocating for\, n
amely environmental sustainability and fairness. Through their latest work
\, our guest speakers will discuss the relationship of environmental susta
inability and fairness within economic recovery policy.\n\nDr Lisa Schippe
r is an Environmental Social Science Research Fellow at the Environmental
Change Institute. Her research focuses on the drivers of social vulnerabil
ity to climate change and natural hazards in developing countries\, and th
e role that adaptation can play in reducing that vulnerability. Lisa's thr
ee focus areas are : (1) understanding the linkages between adaptation to
climate change and development\; (2) socio-cultural drivers of vulnerabili
ty to climate change and natural hazards (particularly religion and gender
)\; and (3) migration and climate change.\n\nDr Ryan Rafaty is a political
scientist by training\, whose ongoing research investigates the design\,
sequencing\, and comparative performance of climate change mitigation poli
cies under varied political and economic regimes. Ryan is a Postdoctoral R
esearcher at Climate Econometrics\, based at Nuffield College\, Oxford\, w
here he contributes to policy-focused knowledge exchange between climatolo
gy\, econometrics\, and political science. He has a doctorate from the Dep
artment of Politics at University of Cambridge\, and is a Fellow at the Ca
mbridge Centre for Environment\, Energy and Natural Resource Governance.\n
\nThe talk will be hosted and recorded through Zoom. \nAttendees will be e
mailed the Zoom link and password.\n\nThe speakers will give a short prese
ntation\, followed by a discussion with the event organisers and attendees
will have the opportunity to ask questions through the chat function.\n\n

world\, there is much ongoing\ndialogue among the scientific community reg
arding how scientists should (or should not) engage\nwith climate activism
For example\, if scientists directly participate in activist movements\,
does\nthat jeopardize their credibility? Or do scientists\, especially tho
se working on environmental\nissues\, have a responsibility to lend their
