DESCRIPTION:The human and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has pro
voked sharp adjustment in the policy priorities of countries in Central an
d South Eastern Europe. The crisis laid bare underlying strengths and weak
nesses\, and the response has involved unprecedented government interventi
on and stimulus measures. There is a sense of emerging new constellations
of interests\, which may mean that countries cannot go back to the status
quo ante. \nThe webinar will discuss the main features of policy adjustmen
ts in selected countries of the region\, and how and why developments diff
er across those countries. Looking forward\, a fundamental question is whe
ther these changes will lead to a permanent reorientation—for instance\,
in the allocation of government spending\, the size of government\, and g
overnment’s role in the financial sector. A related issue is what post-C
OVID policy will mean for economic integration of the region. \nSpeakers:\

DESCRIPTION:Regulatory reform in the post global financial crisis has been
  extensive\, going deep into many micro-prudential (capital\, liquidity…
) and macroprudential (systemic risk buffers…) aspects. Lot of intellect
ual energy and negotiating power have gone into delivering today’s exten
sive post-crisis legislations originating from Basel. Can we say our fina
ncial system is truly more crisis-resilient? This lecture considers the ke
y regulatory changes and argues that some potentially critical elements of
regulatory reform maybe missing\, and that these “elephants in the room
” not simply pose systemic risks to but ultimately also provide ammuniti
 on to anti-elite populism.\nSpeakers:\nPiroska Nagy-Mohacsi (LSE)
