n.\n\n'It is pointless to debate whether the film proposes a plausible int

DESCRIPTION:A screening of The Rescheduled Antigone / Die verschobene Anti
gone (dir. Volker Schlöndorff and Heinrich Böll\, episode from portmante
au film Germany in Autumn / Deutschland im Herbst\, West Germany 1978). In
troduced by Arshya Bommaraju and Carrie Thomas\, with post-screening discu
ssion.\n\nA group of TV executives debate whether they should broadcast a
television version of Sophocles' Antigone commissioned for a series called
'Youth meets the Ancient Classics'. Should it be aired\, or is it an 'inc
itement to violence' and ought to be shelved in the interest of public saf
ety? Sophocles' play meets television self-censorship in the so-called 'Ge
rman Autumn' of 1977\, when a businessman was kidnapped\, and later murder
ed\, by the left-wing terrorists known as the RAF-Rote Armee Fraktion (Red
  Army Faction).\nSpeakers:\nArshya Bommaraju\, Carrie Thomas

DESCRIPTION:The Oxford Classical Drama Society will be joining forces with
the APGRD to host a screening of 'Orestes'\, the 2021 Greek play\, direct
ed by former Oxford students Marcus Bell and Alison Middleton. Due to pand
emic restrictions\, the play was an entirely virtual production\, combinin
g ancient Greek and new translations with contemporary dance\, live comedy
and an original soundtrack. The film won First Prize in the Cameron Macki
ntosh Drama Fund’s Creative Digital Theatre Showcase\, and it is a stunn
ingly innovative example of what can be done with virtual theatre. This wi
ll be the first screening of the production since its digital premiere in
April 2021. We are delighted to be joined by Marcus (co-director) and othe
r members of the creative team for a post-screening discussion on their re
flections and broader issues in the making of theatre performance in a dig
 ital age.\nSpeakers:\n Various Speakers
