 b Badawi returns to Oxford to talk to Dean Ngaire Woods about her book An 
 African History of Africa: From the Dawn of Humanity to Independence publi
 shed in April this year.\n\nThe book guides us through Africa’s spectacu
 lar history – from the very origins of our species\, through ancient civ
 ilisations and medieval empires with remarkable queens and kings\, to the 
 miseries of conquest and the elation of independence. Visiting more than t
 hirty African countries to interview countless historians\, anthropologist
 s\, archaeologists and local storytellers\, Zeinab Badawi unearths buried 
 histories from across the continent and gives Africa its rightful place in
  our global story. The result is a gripping new account of Africa: an epic
 \, sweeping history of the oldest inhabited continent on the planet\, told
  through the voices of Africans themselves.\n\nCopies of Ms Badawi’s boo
 k will be available for purchase.\n\nZeinab Badawi is President of SOAS Un
 iversity of London and an honorary fellow of her alma mater St Hilda’s C
 ollege\, Oxford. Born in Sudan\, she has worked in the British media for s
 everal decades. Zeinab is a recipient of the President’s Medal of the Br
 itish Academy\, a Patron of the United Nations Association UK\, and is on 
 the boards of the Arts\, Humanities and Research Council\, MINDS (the Mand
 ela Institute for Development Studies)\, the International Crisis Group an
 d Afrobarometer. She was previously Chair of the Royal African Society. An

 he Sudan. Her family moved to London when she was two years old. Zeinab is
  one of the best-known broadcast journalists working in the field today. S
 he anchors BBC HARDtalk\, which feature the world’s politicians and busi
 ness leaders\, and presents Global Questions and World Debates. Zeinab’s
  definitive series of Africa’s history\, made in association with UNESCO
 \, is broadcasting on BBC World TV. Her awards include International TV Pe
 rsonality of the Year\; Movie\, Video and Screen Award\, (MVISA) life time
  achievement award\; and she has been named several times in Powerlist as 
 one of the UK’s top 100 most influential members of the black community.
  \n\nZeinab studied Philosophy\, Politics and Economics at St Hilda’s Co
 llege\, Oxford University and took a Master's Degree on Middle East Histor
 y and Anthropology at SOAS London University.  Zeinab was awarded an honor
 ary doctorate by SOAS\, London University for her services to internationa
