DESCRIPTION:Join us for the next Leadership in Extraordinary Times event o
f 2021\nChange is happening. And it is happening FAST.\n\nThere have been
deep shifts in boardrooms recently with Exxon forced to appoint new board
members put forward by an activist investor. We’ve also seen an importan
t purpose-leader\, Emmanuel Faber\, ousted from his CEO and Chair role at
Danone.\n\nAnd then there are landmark decisions in courtrooms - an Austra
lian judge has ruled that the Minister of the Environment has a duty of ca
re to future generations. In the Netherlands a ruling requiring Shell to c
ut emissions by 45% by 2030 signals a willingness to hold carbon emitters
tightly to account for their climate impact. \n\nWhere is this going next?
And how can business leaders surf these waves of change rather than feel
like they are swimming against an outgoing tide or being pulled by an unde
rtow? More importantly\, what does effective leadership look like in this
context - at this extraordinary moment in time?\n\nJoin Oxford Saïd's Mar
y Johnstone-Louis and Charmian Love and industry leaders Douglas Lamont an
d Amy Clarke as they discuss where and how businesses can engage in econom
ic system change by looking at the four key principles of the UK’s Bette
 r Business Act.\n\nFind out more here: https://www.sbs.ox.ac.uk/events/bui

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the next Leadership in Extraordinary Times event.\
n\nPeter Tufano will be interviewing Gillian Tett (FT journalist and autho
 r) about her new book: Anthro-Vision: How Anthropology Can Explain Busines
s and Life\n\nFor over a century\, anthropologists have immersed themselve
s in unfamiliar cultures\, uncovering the hidden rituals that govern how p
eople act. Now\, a new generation of anthropologists are using these metho
ds in a different context - to illuminate the behaviour of businesses and
consumers around the globe.\n\nIn Anthro-Vision\, Gillian Tett - bestselli
ng author\, Financial Times journalist\, and anthropology PhD - reveals ho
w anthropology can make sense of the corporate world. She outlines how ant
hropology helps explain consumer behaviour - revealing the 'webs of meanin
g' that underpin our shopping habits\, and unpicking the subtle cultural s
hifts driving the rise of green business. She explores how anthropology ca
n shed light on the workplace\, identifying the hidden tribes within the o
ffice\, and pinpointing which rituals are binding together a team. And she
shows how we can all use anthropology in our own lives\, too: helping us
make better decisions\, navigate risk - even work out what our peers are r
eally thinking.\n\nAlong the way\, Tett draws on stories from Tajik villag
es and Amazon warehouses\, Japanese classrooms and Wall Street trading flo
ors\, all to reveal the power of anthropology in action.\n\nThe result is
a wholly new way to understand human behaviour. In a short-sighted world\,
we can all learn to see clearly - using the power of Anthro-Vision.\n\nTo
join us live\, visit the link below.\nhttps://www.sbs.ox.ac.uk/events/ant

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the next Leadership in Extraordinary Times event o
f 2021: The great decoupling? The future of relations between China and th
e West\nWhat will be the 'new normal' for the world economy after the pand
emic ends? While the world has been battling the health\, social\, and eco
nomic consequences of COVID-19\, one of the foundational planks of the glo
bal economy—China’s relationship with the West—has continued to shif
 t. Over the course of four years\, the Trump Administration portrayed Chin
a as an economic and national security threat to the United States\, drama
tically increased tariffs on Chinese goods\, and blocked targeted Chinese
firms from using American components and technologies. Severe pressure was
placed on US allies to do the same. Global technology companies have been
stuck in the crossfire: Chinese firms faced difficulties accessing marke
ts and sourcing key components\, American firms were not able to sell to s
ome of their most important customers\, and European firms faced great unc
ertainty over how volatile markets would evolve. The once unthinkable pro
spect of unwinding tightly integrated global value chains and “decouplin
g” the economies of the US and China has become a possibility that canno
t be ignored.\n\nThe purpose of this panel is to understand why Western po
licy towards China and China’s policy toward the West have shifted so dr
amatically in recent years and discuss how it may evolve in the future. Th

DESCRIPTION:As the world strives towards net zero carbon\, corporate susta
inability data is no longer going to be merely a ‘nice to have\,’ or s
omething to make shareholders feel better about their investments. It will
be central to a corporation’s long-term license to operate and thus ins
eparable from that of prospective financial return and risk. Therefore acc
ountants must agree and implement a set of global sustainability standards
.\n\nAs Richard Barker and seven other colleagues recently set out in a le
tter to the IRFS\, they have the relationships\, authority\, and expertise
to take on this additional role and a create a Sustainability Standards B
oard which would then set the sustainability reporting standards.\n\nThis
event session will be based around the high profile debate about how corpo
rations should be presenting their ESG debits/credits as part of their sta
ndard financial reporting and the adoption of a global set of standards fo
r this reporting.\n\nGo here to see information on how to join us live. \n
