DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the EMPTINESS project and co-organised by Stanford U
niversity Press\, this series of masterclasses will demystify digital proj
ect development\, publishing\, and preservation. While the traditional pri
nt book has and will continue to advance scholarly communication\, it is b
ecoming increasingly more useful to present scholarly arguments in a multi
modal framework. Digital publications allow authors to frame their argumen
ts within and alongside the data\, media\, and multi-linear pathways that
best represent and exemplify those arguments. The masterclasses will prese
nt insights into the various aspects of digital publishing\, from making t
he decision to go digital and securing funding and partnerships\, to worki
ng with a publisher and ensuring a project’s longevity.\n\nThe event wil
l be of particular interest to Social Sciences and Arts & Humanities resea
rchers and publishers as well as digital technicians/research software eng
ineers interested in digital preservation pathways and web archiving.\n\n
‘Working with a Publisher’ (4th of 4 masterclasses): While books enjoy
long-established archiving and preservation methods\, digital projects ar
e distinguished by their ephemerality in the face of changing and evolving
technologies. This masterclass will explore three pathways for mitigating
the seeming fragility of digital projects and provide insight and guidanc
e on how the digital can persist as reliably as print in the scholarly rec
ord.\n\nAttendance is free\, but places are limited. We look forward to se
eing you there!\nSpeakers:\nJasmine Mulliken (Stanford University Press)
