DESCRIPTION:The Older Scots Reading Group is for people interested in lite
rature produced in Scotland between 1375-1550. This is an incredibly rich
period\, featuring authors experimenting with form and language. The texts
themselves are written in Older Scots – a language closely related to M
iddle English\, but with some unique attributes. \n\nThis reading group wi
ll provide a relaxed introduction to this period and language. This term w
e will focus on reading the Palyce of Honour\, a dream vision poetry by Ga
vin Douglas that often draws parallels with the House of Fame. But is it p
urely derivative or is there something more subtle at work? Join us to fin
d out! Please bring your own copy of the text if you can – the 2018 TEAM
S METS edition by David Parkinson is recommended.\n\nNo intensive preparat
ion required. Both undergraduates and postgraduates are welcome and there
are usually snacks. If you have any questions\, contact megan.bushnell@lin
 g-phil.ox.ac.uk.\nSpeakers:\n Various Speakers
