DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special event with Daisy J. Hung as she launches
her insightful new book\, I Am Not a Tourist: Conversations on Being Brit
ish Chinese.\n\nFrom politics to popular culture\, British Chinese experie
nces have had little visibility\, remaining largely unseen and rarely disc
ussed. I Am Not a Tourist is a fierce and moving exploration of what it m
eans to be British Chinese today\, and a rallying cry against longstanding
East and Southeast Asian racism that increased exponentially during the C
OVID-19 pandemic. Drawing on personal stories\, extensive interviews and r
esearch\, the book excavates the intricacies of identity\, reveals forgott
en histories\, and explores the nuances of representation in a society tha
 t doesn’t always ‘see’ you.\n\nDaisy J. Hung is a diversity practiti
oner\, author and artist\, advocating for social justice across personal a
nd professional spheres. She is the Head of Equality\, Diversity and Inclu
sion in the Mathematical\, Physical and Life Sciences Division at the Univ
ersity of Oxford. Daisy has a\nunique\, international perspective on race\
, identity\, and belonging\, informed by a career of over two decades acro
ss legal\, non-profit and education sectors working to support marginalise
d communities. As a person of Chinese descent\, born in Canada with family
from Hong Kong\, raised in the US\, and now settled in the UK\, her sense
of identity has shifted among many different contexts. Daisy was longlist
ed for the Penguin Random House WriteNow 2020 competition\, and was select
ed for the inaugural HarperCollins Author Academy programme in 2021 and Th
e Greene Door Project’s mentoring scheme in November 2021.\nSpeakers:\nD
