w book 'Women\, Work and Mobility' (Routledge\, 2024). The event will incl
ude reflections from Dr Valentina Montoya Robledo (TSU\, Oxford)\, Dr Isab
 el Ruiz (HMC\, Oxford) and Dr Debbie Hopkins\, (ContEd & SoGE\, Oxford)\,
a response from the book's author\, and an opportunity to discuss the book
’s themes. The event will be chaired by Dr Jennie Middleton (TSU\, Oxfor
d).\n\n\n\nIn ‘Women\, Work and Mobilities’\, Dr Akyelken examines the
wider implications of how workers move within and across cities and regio
ns to reach economic opportunities\, with a specific focus on women in urb
an and regional contexts in Turkey. Through her writing\, Dr Akyelken reve
als specificities and generalisations about mobility patterns of women in
low-income households/low-paid jobs and how these change in the existence
of urban and regional interventions\, such as industrial zoning\, urban tr
ansformations and mobility restrictions. Through this\, she presents new t
heorisations of work and mobility through labour agency\, showing how mobi
lity changes the recruitment and use of labour under state interventions.\
