DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the EMPTINESS project and co-organised by Stanford U
niversity Press\, this series of masterclasses will demystify digital proj
ect development\, publishing\, and preservation. While the traditional pri
nt book has and will continue to advance scholarly communication\, it is b
ecoming increasingly more useful to present scholarly arguments in a multi
modal framework. Digital publications allow authors to frame their argumen
ts within and alongside the data\, media\, and multi-linear pathways that
best represent and exemplify those arguments. The masterclasses will prese
nt insights into the various aspects of digital publishing\, from making t
he decision to go digital and securing funding and partnerships\, to worki
ng with a publisher and ensuring a project’s longevity.\n\nThe event wil
l be of particular interest to Social Sciences and Arts & Humanities resea
rchers and publishers as well as digital technicians/research software eng
ineers interested in digital preservation pathways and web archiving.\n\n'
Why Go Digital?' (1st of 4 masterclasses): In this conversational mastercl
ass\, authors who have published digital projects with Stanford and MIT Un
iversity Presses will discuss why they chose to go digital rather than pur
sue traditional book publication pathways. They’ll cover topics ranging
from multimodality and audience reach\, to tenure/promotion and longevity.
Q&A will follow.\n\nAttendance is free\, but places are limited. We look
forward to seeing you there!\nSpeakers:\nDace Dzenovska (University of Oxf
ord)\, Jasmine Mulliken (Stanford University Press)\, Allison Levy (Brown
University Digital Publications)\, Max Saunders (University of Birmingham)

 y)\, Tom Bevan (MeThree)
