DESCRIPTION:Our group focuses on the replication and pathogenicity of inte
stinal RNA viruses using enteroviruses and astroviruses as model systems.
Both virus groups include zoonotic pathogens\, and both include members th
at can escape the gut to infect the central nervous system. We are develop
ing a range of molecular tools to address fundamental issues in enteroviru
s and astrovirus biology:\n- Regulation of translation\, replication and v
irus release\n- Features of virus replication in the gut- and brain-specif
ic environment\n- Conserved RNA elements\, their functions and therapeutic
potential\n- Determinants of neurovirulence.\nSpeakers:\nDr Valeria Lulla
