DESCRIPTION:This interdisciplinary panel re-centres time – rather than s
pace – as the key to understanding migration\, precarity\, and agency. D
rawing on anthropology\, development studies\, geography\, media and commu
 nication studies\, policy research\, sociology\, and urban studies\, speak
ers will trace the layered temporalities that migrants inhabit: from the c
ollective rhythms of diasporic memory and national histories to the intima
te beats of life-course milestones and everyday work schedules. By unpacki
ng notions of halting and futuring\, scarcity and excess\, temporariness a
nd permanence\, the discussion will reveal how hopes\, obligations\, and u
ncertainties are distributed across lifetimes and generations. Topics incl
ude immigration regimes\, deportability\, climate mobilities\, and interge
 nerational change. Ultimately\, the panel invites a richer\, time-attuned
perspective on migration – one that illuminates how structural constrain
ts and imagined futures co-produce migrant decisions\, identities\, and se
nses of belonging.\n\nSpeakers:\nDr. Judith Keller (Heidelberg University)
