DESCRIPTION:Chaired by Professor Trish Greenhalgh\nHealth disparities are
 differences in disease incidence\, prevalence\, morbidity\, mortality\, or
survival in one group compared to the general population. Health disparit
ies are a product of macro-level social\, political and economic mechanism
s and intermediary social determinants of health such as living and workin
g conditions and social networks.\n\nThis presentation presents an approac
h to developing “upstream” informatics interventions that focus on the
social\, political\, economic and physical contexts in which health is (r
e-)produced. The presentation outlines key insights drawn from three commu
nity-based research projects in the United States focused on developing an
d evaluating upstream informatics interventions.\nThis free guest lecture
is from the Translation Health Sciences programme.\nSpeakers:\nProf Tiffan
 y Veinot (University of Michigan)
