OxTalks is Changing
Oxford Events, the new replacement for OxTalks, will launch on 16th March. From now until the launch of Oxford Events, new events cannot be published or edited on OxTalks while all existing records are migrated to the new platform. The existing OxTalks site will remain available to view during this period.
From 16th, Oxford Events will launch on a new website: events.ox.ac.uk, and event submissions will resume. You will need a Halo login to submit events. Full details are available on the Staff Gateway.
The Impact of Detention; and Campaigns against Campsfield (with Jesuit Refugee Service & Asylum Welcome)
We will be hosting Dr Sophie Cartwright from the Jesuit Refugee Service UK and Hari Reed from Asylum Welcome for a discussion about the use of immigration detention in the current asylum system and developments in our backyard – namely, the re-opening of Campsfield House IRC. We will discuss visions for a more humane and reformed system could look like, and action people living in Oxford and London can take in campaigning against detention.
Sophie leads on policy and advocacy for the Jesuit Refugee Service UK, where a big part of her work is advocating against immigration detention. She previously worked with asylum seekers in Glasgow and has an academic background in theology.
Hari is the policy and advocacy coordinator for Asylum Welcome in Oxford and Refugee Support Group in Berkshire. She is on the steering group of the Coalition to Keep Campsfield Closed.
A simple vegetarian lunch will be available from 12.45pm. Please email by 10am on Tuesday if you would like to join us.
The talk will begin at 1.15pm.
