Enhancing post stroke recovery: Vagus nerve stimulation and rehabilitation
Persistent post-stroke impairment of the arm and hand is common and debilitating after stroke. Combining vagus nerve stimulation with upper extremity rehabilitation improves such deficits after and was approved by the FDA in the United States 2021. Here, we will discuss the 1-year outcomes from the pivotal VNS-REHAB study and the potential mechanism of effect and issues related to implementing novel neurotechnology in clinical practice.
