Parasites under the spotlight - Applications of vibrational spectroscopy to parasitology
For an opportunity to speak with Professor Bayden Wood please email: natalia.kapel@zoo.ox.ac.uk
Vibrational spectroscopy has many applications in the field of biological sciences. The ability to image a cell or tissue based on its molecular phenotype represents a fundamental new way to understand the chemistry of the organism for taxonomic and monitoring environmental perturbations. The presentation will focus on the application of vibrational spectroscopic techniques including Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR), Focal Plane Array (FPA) imaging, Raman microscopy and AFM-infrared spectroscopy to small organisms from bacteria, to parasites including Plasmodium falciparum and Babesia bovis, to giant algae and mosquitoes.
