OxTalks will soon move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events.' There will be a need for an OxTalks freeze. This was previously planned for Friday 14th November – a new date will be shared as soon as it is available (full details will be available on the Staff Gateway).
In the meantime, the OxTalks site will remain active and events will continue to be published.
If staff have any questions about the Oxford Events launch, please contact halo@digital.ox.ac.uk
Join the Oxford Internet Institute for a conversation with NGO Free Press Unlimited on how the digital age and new technologies impact global freedom of the press. In the age of the Internet, open access to the web is necessary for the protection of information integrity and the safeguarding of democracy. While modern technology enables broader access to the media, new threats like misinformation, digital censorship and online surveillance create hostile environments for journalists and newsgatherers.
The panel will be moderated in-person by Lidewij van Vliet, FPU’s Development Officer, and Mia Speier, OII student and FPU’s UK Ambassador. Panelists will join virtually, and include: – Maryia Soudouskaya-Komlach, FPU’s Director of Free Press for Eastern Europe and a Non-Resident Fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis – Tom Keunen, FPU’s Head of Security – Flora Shulte Nordholt, FPU’s Policy and Advocacy Officer focused on legal, digital and gender-based threats to journalists.
