Printing Sounds
Join us for a ‘listen, print, sing’ and learn about the Bodleian’s collections of missionary archives, tonic sol-fa, and printing.
A talk will explore examples of printing and archival materials from East and southern Africa that illustrate the use of printing and tonic sol-fa in nineteenth-century missionary work.
Participants will learn to print the music of a hymn in Tonic sol-fa and then have a go at singing through it.
The session is led by Philip Burnett, University of York, and Bodleian staff. All levels of ability are welcome. Booking is essential as spaces are limited.
