Unknown: The Feminine, Africa, and Constructing an African Hedda Gabler
This year’s Lady English Lecture will be given by the writer and broadcaster Bonnie Greer.
In the lecture entitled ‘Unknown: The Feminine, Africa, and Constructing an African Hedda Gabler’, Bonnie Greer will be discussing her adaptation of Ibsen’s drama in which she casts Hedda as an African woman. She will talk about why she believes many male adapters have got Hedda wrong, what she thinks Ibsen intended, and the notion of ‘Africa’ and people of African descent in the ‘West’.
The lecture will take place in the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building at 5.30pm, followed by a drinks reception.
