A question of Trust: Understanding vaccine hesitancy in the UK
Only about 7 out of 10 people in the UK are fully vaccinated. Across the world, the main reason for such reluctance is a lack of public trust. This study first proposes to investigate why a significant minority trust the vaccine as little as they do. It will collect data from people living in the United Kingdom, with both a nationally representative sample and a boosted sample of non-White respondents. It will aim to uncover a series of stylized facts in relation to people’s reasoning about the vaccine. It will investigate whether these reasons differ by race or ethnicity. will then run a follow-up study to investigate whether an informational intervention can increase individual’s intention to vaccinate.
