Interdisciplinary Seminar ‘Integrating cultural seascapes and sense of place into socio-ecological systems’
Holistic management of marine areas relies on understanding, defining seascapes as interconnected social and biophysical elements. While social-ecological system approaches have improved the understanding of ecosystems, the social phenomena are often underestimated or mainly analyzed through their impact. But complex spatial-temporal interactions exist between the ocean and its users. Users do have a representation of the ocean. We will present the different interactions between users and the ocean and the importance of integrating the cultural component and reconnecting to the oceans from our senses, to go from space to place, to travel into different temporalities and how the link art-science could bring new perspectives into socio-ecological systems.
