Bolstering your Core Employability Skills

A postgraduate degree from (or postdoctoral experience in) Oxford certainly looks good on any CV, but on its own this will not get you shortlisted for a job interview. For that, you need to demonstrate to a potential employer that you have the requisite employability skills to perform effectively in the workplace and to get the job done. In this workshop we will focus on understanding what core employability skills are, identifying your current skills set and ways to boost this, and learning how to communicate your skills in the job application process.

Workshop objectives:
-Learn what employers inside/outside academia view as core employability skills, and how to communicate these effectively – Evaluate current skill set, including those acquired through postgraduate study and in extracurricular pursuits; identify gaps and ways to fill them
-Understand how to draft a skills-based CV, and when to use this for job applications.
