Reflecting (on) the Climate Crisis: the Role of Art and Ecocriticism in Climate Change Communication

“How have art and literature shaped the discourse on the climate crisis? How do they make sense of the natural environment in which we live in? We have the honour of hosting Dr. Tom White and Dr. Deborah Lilley on a panel on climate change and the arts.

Dr. Tom White is a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellow in the English Faculty at the University of Oxford. His research interests range broadly across medieval and early modern literature, the history of media and technology, and critical theory. He is also interested in the burgeoning field of the energy humanities and the role of contemporary art in a time of climate crisis.

Dr. Deborah Lilley is Managing Editor of Places, a journal featuring public scholarship on architecture and urbanism. holds a Ph.D in English from Royal Holloway, University of London, and writes and researches in the fields of contemporary literature and environmental humanities. Her first monograph, The New Pastoral in Contemporary British Writing, was published by Routledge in 2020, and her work has been published in numerous journals. She has taught English at Royal Holloway, University of London, and the University of San Francisco.
