New methods and challenges in flood and drought research
Dr Hans de Moel is an assistant professor at the Institute for Environmental Studies, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam. He is part of the Water and Climate Risks group, which researches various water-related hazards including flooding, droughts and hail. A significant portion of the group’s research relates to the quantitative assessment of water-related risks, their impact on society, and management.

In this talk, Hans will illustrate some of the latest research emerging from VU Amsterdam. This includes new developments in the use of Twitter data in flood research and monitoring, assessing global flood damages in a consistent way, and the development of drought profiles for African countries.
