Maroons Journey, Arkopong to Accompong, Talk & Film Presentation with Lekan Babalola
Creative Arts Fellow, Lekan Babalola will present research conducted in Ghana West Africa during the 2024 Odwira festival in The Akuapem, one of the few confederacies in Ghana.

Babalola’s films include interviews with people of Guan and Akan descent, including a Ghanaian Chief/ Historian talking about Queen Nanny of Jamaica, a Jamaican born artist who repatriated to Ghana from New York, an Irish-English musicologist who has been living in Ghana for over 50 years talking about the movement of Maroon music and culture from Ghana to Jamaica during the transatlantic slave trade movement, and a musicologist speaking about the 100 yrs celebration of Highlife music happening in Ghana next year 2025 in conjunction with United Nation declaring a day in the year calendar as ‘International Highlife Day’.
