Writing more readable and actionable documents: Formatting and language

Held as part of the Centre for Teaching and Learning’s ‘Maximise your digital productivity’ series, this session is for academics, staff and students who are interested in improving their digital productivity.

Do you want people to read your documents more quickly, understand them better, and take action? This session will cover key principles of readable formatting and readable language. These principles are based on the latest readability and User Experience design research. They can be applied simply and without need for any special tools to documents from ranging emails to long reports and web sites. Topics include:
* Principles of readability
* Structuring and formatting documents for readability and navigation
* Providing other guides to increase document readability and navigation
* Making the most out of Word to produce readable PDFs
* What makes for plain, easy to understand language
* How to measure readability and interpret the scores
