OxTalks is Changing
OxTalks will soon move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events.' There will be a need for an OxTalks freeze. This was previously planned for Friday 14th November – a new date will be shared as soon as it is available (full details will be available on the Staff Gateway).
In the meantime, the OxTalks site will remain active and events will continue to be published.
If staff have any questions about the Oxford Events launch, please contact halo@digital.ox.ac.uk
Rob Penn: How to Look After Your Own Pixel
is easy to become overwhelmed listening to the talks and pledges that have emerged from the recent COP 27 Climate Conference in Egypt. Global commitments make great soundbites. But they also remove agency from the vast majority of people on the planet. Rob Penn – ‘reformed’ lawyer, journalist, author and broadcaster – co-founded the woodland creation and landscape restoration charity Stump Up For Trees in 2020 to help mitigate the climate and biodiversity crises in his own backyard, the Brecon Beacons in south-east Wales. In this discussion, Rob promises to take us through his own stories rewilding, recycling and reimagining his way through his own natural environment. He will talk about how direct action and finding a community of like-minded people to bring about change in their immediate landscape has been a life raft as the existential threat of climate change swells around us.
