Childhood poverty: challenges and solutions

Come along to what promises to be a fascinating talk by Prof Jo Boyden on the challenges to eliminating childhood poverty and whether the Sustainable Development goals are likely to make a difference, with a focus on issues relating to gender inequality.

Jo will draw on findings from Young Lives, a 15-year mixed-methods study of 12,000 children, their families and communities, in Ethiopia, India, Peru and Vietnam and discuss these in light of some of the achievements, controversies and shortcomings in current policy and program approaches. In particular, she will address issues around gender inequality, young people’s aspirations and the role of education in preparing them for the labour market and debates around ‘harmful traditional practices’, such as child marriage and female circumcision.

This talk is free and open to all so please come along if you’re at all interested in finding out more!
