Overriding MHC class I antigen presentation

Louise Boyle is Professor of Molecular Immunology and a Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Pathology, University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on molecular pathways controlling antigen presentation to the immune system. Work in the Boyle lab focuses on advancing knowledge of peptide selection by Major Histocompatibility (MHC) molecules – vital research given the critical role that these molecules play in infection control and the recognition of cancer. Louise made the key discovery that TAPBPR plays a role in the MHC I antigen processing and presentation pathway and her laboratory was at the forefront of characterising the function of TAPBPR. The discoveries made through this research have provided novel insights into MHC biology and identified translational opportunities to increase the immunogenicity of cells which may pave the way for new therapeutics.
