Civic resilience in Ukraine: how civil society is defying the Russian assault
From the first day of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has defended itself against Russian aggression not only through military action, but also through a hard-to-beat level of civic activity. Based on both long-standing experience of compensating state tasks in defence and humanitarian aid since the first Russian invasion in 2014 and on a high level of social ownership and civic responsibility, Ukrainian volunteerism forms a strong force in Ukraine’s resistance and resilience. In this talk, I will portray recent development directions of how Ukrainian civil society keeps state and society running amidst a full-scale war, and I will analyse the roots of Ukrainian civic resilience. Furthermore, I will also portray the resistance movement in the occupied territories as a particular civic contribution to upholding Ukrainian perseverance
