The 2026 Reuters Memorial Lecture: Journalism as resistance
The 2026 Reuters Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Carlos Dada under the title ‘Journalism as Resistance’. Dada is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of the Salvadoran digital news outlet El Faro, the first digital-only news site launched in Latin America. The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion on the challenges facing journalists worldwide.
The speaker: Carlos Dada is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of El Faro, (The Lighthouse), one of Latin America’s most renowned media organisations, with a reputation earned by its investigations on violence, organised crime, gangs, migration, corruption and human rights violations in Central America.
Dada is an investigative reporter and a nonfiction writer. His book Los Pliegues de la Cintura is a series of long stories on violence, organised crime and its effects on millions of hopeless people eager for change in Central America. He is also the host of the podcast Malas Compañías.
He has been named World Press Freedom Hero by the International Press Institute, and is a recipient, among other distinctions, of the Maria Moors Cabot Award by Columbia University and the Trailblazer Award by the International Center for Journalists. Today, at the onset of a dictatorship in El Salvador, he and his newsroom are in exile, facing the enormous challenge of telling the story while away.
Registration is required for in-person or online attendance.
