Epistemology in the philosophy of medicine

This session introduces certain controversies in modern medicine, in particular those surrounding EBM. For example, EBM advocates use of a ‘hierarchy of evidence’ ranking the quality of evidence gained from different types of clinical study. The correctness and value of such
hierarchies of evidence is hotly disputed. How can epistemology bring light to such debates?
