Greek manuscripts from the collection of Lincoln College
Lincoln’s collection of 39 Greek manuscripts is largely the gift of Sir George Wheler (1651-1724), who assembled the collection during his travels in the Ottoman Empire in the 1670s. Dr Parpulov is currently working on a new catalogue of these manuscripts and in this talk he will be looking at what the cataloguing project can tell us about Wheler, his collection of manuscripts, and the ways in which the study of Greek manuscripts has evolved since Wheler’s time.
There will also be an exhibition of some of the manuscripts Dr Parpulov will be discussing. Since these are normally housed in the Weston Library, this will be a rare opportunity to see them in College. We look forward to seeing you there.
The talk will take place in the Oakeshott Room at 5.15pm on Thursday 7th March; everyone is welcome and no booking is necessary. We will also be streaming the talk on Zoom; if you would like the link, contact sarah.cusk@lincoln.ox.ac.uk.
