SICI (short-interval intracortical inhibition) is thought to be caused by low intensity stimulation of non-directionally sensitive GABAergic interneurons in motor cortex. I will show some recent experiments that indicate this is not true. In fact, different directions of SICI activate independent sets of inhibitory connections that interact differently with other forms of cortical inhibition (SAI, CBI). And if Covid had not intervened I might even have been able to say whether they are differentially recruited by different behaviours!
