Trying to do Justice

The Bodley Club is delighted to welcome Sir Jeremy Cooke, former High Court judge, who will be delivering a talk entitled ‘Trying to do Justice’.

Sir Jeremy Cooke retired from the High Court Bench in Easter 2016, having been appointed in 2001. Among the cases he has presided over as judge were the 2007 royal blackmail plot, the trial of Armel Gnango for the murder of Magda Pniewska, the trial of Roshonara Choudhry for stabbing Stephen Timms MP, and the 2011 Pakistan cricket spot-fixing scandal. He sat regularly in the Commercial Court, and is currently a Justice of the Dubai International Financial Court as well as International Judge of the Singapore International Commercial Court. His main areas of expertise are in shipping, insurance, banking and international sale of goods and energy, though he also has extensive experience of sitting in serious criminal cases including those involving corruption or fraud.
