OxTalks is Changing
Oxford Events, the new replacement for OxTalks, will launch on 16th March. From now until the launch of Oxford Events, new events cannot be published or edited on OxTalks while all existing records are migrated to the new platform. The existing OxTalks site will remain available to view during this period.
From 16th, Oxford Events will launch on a new website: events.ox.ac.uk, and event submissions will resume. You will need a Halo login to submit events. Full details are available on the Staff Gateway.
Atomistic Spin Dynamics for Quantitative Modelling of Magnetic Materials
I will introduce the method of atomistic spin dynamics which is becoming increasingly used to model magnetic materials including thermodynamics and dynamical behaviour. As well as a basic introduction I will talk about recent advances including the use of quantum thermostats which fix historical issues that inhibited quantitative calculations. I will use my recent work modelling the complex magnetic insulator Yttrium Iron Garnet—a key material in spintronics experiments—to demonstrate that we can now calculate quantitative thermodynamics of properties which are difficult to access experimentally via a multi scale approach which can start from neutron scattering data or first principles calculations.
