OxTalks is Changing
Oxford Events, the new replacement for OxTalks, will launch on 16th March. From now until the launch of Oxford Events, new events cannot be published or edited on OxTalks while all existing records are migrated to the new platform. The existing OxTalks site will remain available to view during this period.
From 16th, Oxford Events will launch on a new website: events.ox.ac.uk, and event submissions will resume. You will need a Halo login to submit events. Full details are available on the Staff Gateway.
Oxford Minds Panel Discussion: Ethnography
The series
For Trinity Term we are focussing on research methods. The aim of these sessions is really to excite an interdisciplinary audience of graduates to understand how different methods are being used creatively across the social sciences. The panel discussions will be held during the first four weeks of term and will focus on ‘interviews’ in week 1, ‘numbers’ (quant methods) in week 2, ‘archives’ in week 3, and ‘ethnogrpahy’ in week 4.
Panellists:
David Mills is Associate Professor in the Department of Education. Trained in social anthropology, David uses ethnographic methods to study higher education. He is currently researching – from afar – institutional research and publishing cultures in African universities, and the impact of the discourse around so-called ‘predatory’ publishing.
Elizabeth Ewart is Associate Professor in the Anthropology of Lowland South America, Head of the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography, and Fellow of Linacre College. She works on the Anthropology of Lowland South America, Brazil, indigenous peoples, Amerindian cosmology, material anthropology, body arts, the social significance of everyday practices.
Ruben Andersson is an anthropologist working on migration, borders and security with a focus on the West African Sahel and southern Europe.
