OxTalks is Changing
Oxford Events, the new replacement for OxTalks, will launch on 16th March. From now until the launch of Oxford Events, new events cannot be published or edited on OxTalks while all existing records are migrated to the new platform. The existing OxTalks site will remain available to view during this period.
From 16th, Oxford Events will launch on a new website: events.ox.ac.uk, and event submissions will resume. You will need a Halo login to submit events. Full details are available on the Staff Gateway.
Things come together: science in the American West
The American West, often imagined as an exotic place apart, was in fact born coincident with the greatest revolution in movement in the world’s history at that time—the use of steam and electricity to convey people, things, and information. Born connected, the West contributed to many forces and developments transforming the world in the late 19th century. This talk will consider the West’s impact through the lens of science, in particular the fields of paleontology and epidemiology. In both the emerging West provided critical breakthroughs that would shape our understanding of the origins of life and the causes of death.
