Personalised Healthcare: From Bench to Bedside
We are at a pivotal time where an unprecedented convergence of medical knowledge and technology is revolutionising healthcare. Particularly, rapid whole-genome sequencing and infrastructure building are moving to make a mainstream genomics medicine service a reality in the UK. More generally, precision medicine is already helping more and more patients get better by ensuring the right treatment for the right person at the right time.
In spite of the improved health benefits, challenges remain for personalised healthcare in terms of medical ethics, data safety, cost efficiency, acquisition and analysis of large omics data, the complexity of disease mechanisms, and so on.
In collaboration with the Centre for Personalised Medicine (University of Oxford), this event will bring together insights from academia, industry and government to delineate where the field is currently, and to discuss what we can do in the continued research and application of these personalised solutions.
We’re fortunate to be hosting the following speakers who will be discussing the ins and outs of Personalised Healthcare:
Professor Joanne Hackett (Chief Commercial Officer at Genomics England) is responsible for their industry engagement strategy by developing, managing and accelerating relationships with commercial organisations − creating opportunities for collaboration both nationally and globally. Joanne is a clinical academic, an investor, and a strategic, creative visionair with global experience spanning successful start-ups to Fortune 500 companies.
Professor Simon Leedham (Director of the Centre for Personalised Medicine) is a Cancer Research UK Clinician Scientist and an Honorary Consultant Gastroenterologist. He was appointed as the Director of the CPM in May 2016. He won the United European Gastroenterology Rising Star Award in 2010, the British Society of Gastroenterology Sir Francis Avery Jones Research prize in 2015 and the Cancer Research UK Future Leaders prize in 2017 for his research.
Doctor Lauren Harper (Oncology Medical Manager, Roche Diagnostics UK and Ireland) has an MSc and PhD in oncology focused on biomarkers and combinations of targeted therapies. As the Medical Oncology Lead for Roche Diagnostics, she develops and implements the oncology medical strategy, manages new and existing clinical studies, and overall contributes to the delivery of high quality patient care.
