11:30-12:00 Prof. Robert Carlisle, IBME “Ultrasound-Enhanced Delivery of Macromolecules to Cells and Tumours”

12:00-13:00 Dr Brad Wood, National Institutes of Health Director, Centre for Interventional Oncology & Chief of Interventional Radiology
“Drugs + Devices + Imaging: A Novel Paradigm for Minimally Invasive, Image-Guided Molecular Interventions in Oncology”

A brief overview of the emerging discipline of Interventional Oncology will be presented, with a focus on image-able drug eluting microspheres, heat deployed liposomal nanoparticles, and how multi-modality navigation and automation can enable the interventional oncologist to deliver image guided drugs and local therapies with fusion guidance in the clinic (such as thermal ablation and drug eluting bead chemo-embolization for liver tumors). The bridge between the physical, biological, and clinical sciences provides a fertile milieu for multi-disciplinary team science, enabling the rapid and cost-effective translation of novel technologies to meet clinical needs.
