Social inequalities through a life course perspective: implications for health, work and careers
This event is Seminar 4 in DSPI’s Hilary Term Seminar Series.

Making the transition to adulthood is a key developmental task for young people. In this paper I will address key challenges and opportunities facing young people coming of age in different historical periods, i.e., before and after the turn of the Millennium, following the 2008 recession and the 2020 global Covid-19 pandemic. The focus lies on experiences of social inequality across multiple domains such as education, employment and housing and associated levels of health and wellbeing. Adopting a life course perspective I will discuss the interlinkages of multiple inequalities, the interactions between social and individual-level resources and what can be done to support young people in times of social change.
