Latin America confronts the United States: asymmetry and influence
Drawing on research in six countries, Dr Tom Long offers a new perspective on US-Latin American relations. His analysis provides in-depth explorations of key moments in post-World War II inter-American relations – including the watershed shift in US-Mexican relations spurred by the negotiation of NAFTA. He examines how Latin American leaders formulated their goals, crafted strategies to change US policies, and achieved influence under asymmetry – and why they sometimes failed to do so.
