Lincoln Unlocked & Oxford Bibliographical Society lecture: George Parpulov on Lincoln College's Greek manuscripts

This collection of 39 manuscripts, which includes copies of the Gospels dating back to the 12th century, important theological works and medieval editions of classical texts, is largely the gift of Sir George Wheler (1651-1724), who assembled the collection during his travels in the Ottoman Empire in the 1670s. Dr Parpulov, who is currently working on a new catalogue of these manuscripts, will be looking at what the cataloguing project can tell us about Wheler, his collection of manuscripts, and the ways in which the study of Greek manuscripts has evolved since Wheler’s time.

There will also be an exhibition of some of the manuscripts Dr Parpulov will be discussing. Since these are normally housed in the Weston Library, this will be a rare opportunity to see them in College.

Everyone is welcome and no booking is necessary. We will also be streaming the talk on Zoom; if you would like the link please contact Sarah on mailto:sarah.cusk@lincoln.ox.ac.uk
