OxTalks is Changing
OxTalks will soon move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events.' There will be a need for an OxTalks freeze. This was previously planned for Friday 14th November – a new date will be shared as soon as it is available (full details will be available on the Staff Gateway).
In the meantime, the OxTalks site will remain active and events will continue to be published.

Raw materials, the timber crisis, and fears of deforestation during the interwar period
This paper will reveal the entanglements of timber trade and deforestation issues under the auspices of the League of Nations. As the discussion will show, forests and timber merged two intertwining threads. As an international forum for industrial cooperation, the League was focused on supporting and ensuring efficient global production of a variety of raw materials. Due to different circumstances, timber received a special attention on behalf of different players involved. Moreover, the interwar story of timer reflected the ways in which urgent environmental calls to stop deforestation also became part of the international discussion on raw materials, timber, and trees.
